"Lee Jin’s Tale of Tragic Love" is a historical Korean drama that originally aired in 1981. Set in late 19th-century Joseon (Korea), it tells the story of a young girl from a poor Catholic family who loses her parents during a wave of religious persecution. She is taken in by French priests and learns French. Later, she becomes a dancer at the royal court. During a diplomatic event, she meets a French envoy, and they fall in love. With the king's permission, she marries him and moves to France. However, life abroad proves difficult, and when they return to Korea, she is still treated as a servant due to her social status.

This project is my reinterpretation of the original script, designed as my MFA thesis work.
